Seth Butler is a visual communications professional, designer, educator, photojournalist and documentary photographer. Seth received a BFA with honors from Montserrat College of Art in 2002 and has since worked as a creative director, photo editor, and photographer in diverse marketplaces including advertising, editorial, education, adventure sports and nonprofit.
Seth’s photography work has been published in numerous periodicals including Der Spiegel, PRI’s The World, BlueEyes Magazine, AOL’s Pixcetera, Vision Magazine, Transworld Snowboarding Magazine, Snowboard Magazine, Upper Valley Life, Burlington Free Press, Valley News and Randolph Herald. Seth was recently chosen as the Vermont photographer for the internationally acclaimed 50 States Project, curated by Stuart Pilkington from the UK. His photography is privately collected around the world, and has solicited praise in major photography festivals, competitions and publications.
Seth is a co-founder of Momenta Workshops, an organization committed to teaching documentary photography within immersive, real-world learning environments. Previous to this, Seth worked in Manhattan as the Imaging Studio Manager for world-renowned photographer Steve McCurry—moving on to produce, teach and manage photography workshops on an international level. Late in 1999, Seth co-founded the critically acclaimed magazine The Journal of Contemporary Culture—a publication once focusing on contemporary youth culture—for which he worked as publisher and creative director through 2006. Currently, Seth resides in Vermont, working as a creative director, designer and photographer.
